Off Kilter this four movement work was written at the request of Melonie Buchanan, a choreographer/dancer with the Wichita Ballet Theatre. It was premiered in 1997 at a student choreography showcase at Friends University. Since its premier this ballet has been performed on many other occasions. The instrumentation in this work ranges from the mallet percussion instruments to a wide variety of battery percussion instruments. This work is scored for five percussionists, though there are six at times, due to the fact that the string bass player is also required to play percussion. |

Holy, Holy, Holy - music by John B. Dykes, and text by Reginald Heber was written specifically for its liturgical use on Trinity Sunday, which occurs eight weeks after Easter. The emphasis of that Sunday's service is to reaffirm the doctrine of the triune Godhead. This arrangement was commissioned by Dr. David Weber and Toni Libhart for the Friends University Choir and the Friends University Percussion Ensemble. Throughout this composition process, I tried to keep the music as simple and as reverent as the hymn itself. The work that went into that arrangement was particularly enjoyable for me because Dr. David Weber and Toni Libhart have been consistent supporters of my musical endeavors throughout the years.

Syncopate My Afuche was commissioned by Toni Libhart for the Wichita Wind Ensembleís Percussion group for their 1996 trip to Cancun Mexico. Professor Libhart approached me with the request for a piece of percussion literature that would not use any large percussion instruments, due to the fact that they would be flying to Cancun and wanted to pack light. Syncopate My Afouche is available through Studio 4 percussion publications.

Bottom Right: After the recital, there was a small reception in the lobby of the concert hall. Pictured here are (left to right) Jeanne Anne Schroeder (vocalist), and the members of Alathea - Cristi Johnson, Carrie Theobald, and Mandee Radford. Michael produced their first two CD's, and in addition to coming to Michael's recital, the ladies were in town from Nashville for a couple performances, and to begin pre-production work on their next recording.
