This was my last opportunity to sing with Jessie, Jake, and Britta, as Britta passed away suddenly the following October.
Abbey Mattheis, Jessie's daughter, is obviously excited during a sound check. :-)
Britta and my oldest daughter Leia had known each other since infancy. Quoting from one of Leia's recent Facebook comments regarding Britta's passing, Britta was her "sweet song bird in heaven ♡♡♡ The world isn't as beautiful without her in it."
On January 12, 2010, a monster earthquake measuring 7.0 magnitude on the Richter scale slammed into the country of Haiti, killing more than 230,000 people. [See this Wikipedia Link|https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010Haitiearthquake] for details on this overwhelming tragedy.
My friend *Shawn O'Trimble* was so moved by this seemingly insurmountable catastrophe, that he began to plan a way to do his part to help the millions of victims. In addition to raising money to donate to the American Red Cross, and simultaneously bring together several church families, praise teams, and speakers together in the process. The result was this event - *One God, One Vision: Christians for Haiti.* Starting with the praise team he leads at Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church, he and his wife *Teri O'Trimble* reached out to the local community of worship leaders and was met with immediate positive responses. As he told *Capitol Journal's Phil Anderson*, he wanted to organize something "something akin to Topeka's version of 'We Are the World.'" These pics represent just a tiny segment of the awesome event. In addition to about a dozen local praise teams and soloists performing, a few of the "big names" that came to support and speak were Mayor Bill Bunten and Kansas State University head football coach Bill Snyder. Needless to say it was an awesome event.
